COACHING LUNA ROSSA

Who are the coaches of the sailing team

COACHING LUNA ROSSA: BRUNI, JUNIOR, PLAZZI, SALVA'

Having met Luna Rossa’s helmsmen and helmswomen today we take a look at the Italian challenger’s coaches: key figures who play a crucial and delicate role, overseeing the selection and development of the sailing team. Francesco “Checco” Bruni, Josh Junior, Jacopo Plazzi Marzotto and Simone Salvà form a diverse group in terms of background, age and experience, yet they share the same passion and a common goal: to contribute to winning the America’s Cup.

You cannot be an effective coach without having first been a good sailor. Not only because it is essential to master the skills before passing them on, but also because only an athlete who has faced the same challenges and put themselves on the line, both professionally and personally, can truly connect with others, earning their attention and respect.

All of them developed through youth sailing classes, and have followed different paths that led them to achieve significant results across a range of boats and circuits, including offshore sailing: Olympic campaigns, world championships, skiffs, foiling boats and, of course, the America’s Cup.

Each of them brings specific expertise to the group, ensuring that the sailors are in the best possible condition—both physically and mentally—to face a demanding challenge such as the America’s Cup.
