Romano's rowing career began in the youth sector of the Forestale; he then moved on to CC Aniene where he is still part of the Fiamme Gialle sports group. Romano has competed in two Olympic Games - winning the silver medal in the '2 di Coppia' at the London 2012 Games -, in 11 World Championships (winning two) and in eight European Championships. He was also Italian Champion 16 times. In 2018, he decided to enter the world of sailing and, in particular, to focus on the role of grinder, his new passion. The 2024 America's Cup will be his second, always with Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli. In his spare time he enjoys off-road 4x4 racing. If he weren’t a pro sailor he would have become a military pilot.
