Born in Montevideo but a Brazilian citizen, Horacio is a mechanical engineer and naval architect. After graduating he started his own yacht design studio developing racing and cruising yachts. He participated as a professional sailor in three editions of the Volvo Ocean Race (2005-06 Brasil 1, 2008-09 Ericsson Racing Team and 2011-12 Team Telefónica), winning in 2008-09 on Ericsson 4 (setting the world speed record on a monohull). He participated in the Seoul Olympics in '88 in the Soling class; he is a multiple winner of national and international IMS regattas, world and South American champion in the Snipe class and has several world and continental titles to his credit in the Laser and Star classes. As a designer, he has participated in four America's Cup campaigns (2007 Victory Challenge, 2013 Artemis Racing, 2017 Groupama Team France, 2021 Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli). The 2024 America's Cup will be his fifth participation, his second with Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli. His hobbies are wing foiling, racing bikes, sailing and cruising.
