Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli in the final stage of the PRADA Cup
Regattas resume in Auckland, the PRADA Cup enters the final phase

After a two-week stop, on February 13th the PRADA Cup resumes with the final series of races that will determine the team to challenge defender Emirates Team New Zealand for the America’s Cup.
For the first time in the long history of the trophy, both teams competing in this final phase represent two countries in the European continent: Italy’s Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli against British Ineos Team UK.
Starting this weekend, the race program calls for two races a day, starting at 4 pm in New Zealand and 4 am in Italy. The series features regattas to the best of 13 races, in which the first team to win 7 races wins the PRADA Cup, the prestigious trophy created by the Australian designer Marc Newson and handcrafted by the most prestigious Florentine silversmiths.

 A Special Wish

This is the message that Patrizio Bertelli personally created and sent to Auckland, where it has been pinned up in all departments of the team base.

Onboard AC75 "Luna Rossa"

The AC75 is an extremely complex boat. A 6.5-ton sailboat that reaches a speed of 50 knots, lifted above the water and relying uniquely on an element of a few square meters immersed in the water, the wing foil, seems like a miracle of physics.
To achieve this concentration of technology it has taken three years of development, experimentation and work. Under the deck Luna Rossa hides a complex system of valves and hydraulic pumps used to raise the arms, rotate the mast and adjust the sails.
The energy used for handling the boat is produced by 8 grinders, 4 on each side. But their role is not limited only to this; each of them has specific tasks in the management of the boat and contributes to the manoeuvres and trimming of the systems.

SUSTAINABILITY

Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli with One Ocean Foundation and TITICI: for a project to protect the oceans

Sea pollution has always been an issue to which the team is particularly sensitive.
Each day, an average over 5 kg of plastic accumulates along every kilometer of coast, which is then dispersed into the sea. For this reason Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli has decided to join the One Ocean Foundation project "No plastic in the Ocean", auctioning two of the three bicycles made by the Italian company TITICI and used by the team during training. The proceeds from the bids will go to the "No Plastic in the Ocean" project promoted by One Ocean Foundation. Every euro obtained will contribute to the collection of 2 kgs of plastic waste that threaten the coasts of the Pacific Ocean.
