READY TO GET BACK ON TRACK

After a forced break of almost a month, Luna Rossa is ready to get back on track. It has been an intense period for the team, working in the shed around the clock.
The initial program had been a two-week break from sailing, to allow designers and shore team to implement some modifications. This plan changed with the dismasting that took place in late January, when further days were added to repair the damage.
With the boat back in the water, this past week has been challenging and filled with long days of load testing and practice on the water.
Sailing sessions resumed today in perfect wind conditions that allowed the team to regain confidence with the boat.
Alessandro Franceschetti, design team member, gave us a short report.
"We have worked hard in this past month to develop important upgrades to the boat, with which we are very happy. The Boat and team are now in “race mode”, ready to race at the end of April."

FOCUS ON
How do we fly?
With less than two months left to go until the start of the first act of the America’s Cup World Series in Cagliari, to be held from 23 to 26 of April, curiosity is at its peak for these new “flying monohulls”. For the first time these boats will compete between the buoys in what are expected to be incredibly tight and spectacular races. The schedule involves three days of Round Robins, while the last day will feature the Finals, for the first and second place, with the Petit Final to determine third and fourth place.
We will see completely new yachts, with outstanding performances and technological solutions very close to aeronautical engineering, that allow a boat as heavy as an elephant to “fly”.
Watch our Boat Tutorial for an insight in the Luna Rossa “numbers”.

SUSTAINABILITY
Attitude Ocean: a project to save the oceans
The first activity of Attitude Ocean was held the afternoon of February 29 along the Lungomare del Poetto. The event, a workshop for the young Cagliari school’s students, organized in collaboration with the environmental organization MEDSEA, closed with a true waste-hunting contest.
Attitude Ocean is a project aimed at raising awareness on the protection of oceans and on the problems deriving from plastic pollution of the marine environment.
This initiative has been developed in the context of participation in the activities of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in the programme Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development that will start in 2021.
Approaching the America’s Cup World Series in Cagliari, the programme of Attitude Ocean includes another youth workshop in March and a beach clean-up in April. The activities in Cagliari will end on 22 April with a symposium in which experts and specialists will be involved to discuss the issues of pollution and the protection of the oceans.
If you missed this first event, the next workshop will be held March 21st.

FEATURING THE TEAM...
Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli team guests of Cantine Ferrari in Trento.

On 6 February, representatives of the Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli sailing team took part in the #ToTheMaximum event, an evening dedicated to sports and top-level sailing, held at the Cantine Ferrari headquarters in Trento. The Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli team members described their experience to the audience, with stories of the challenges and prospects they face in their preparation for the 36th edition of the America’s Cup.
Luna Rossa at Foiling Award

On the evening of Feb 20th the “WeWork” space in Milan hosted the Foiling Awards event. The Award, established by Foiling Week, celebrates those who have distinguished themselves in the development of foiling navigation in eight significant categories during the previous year. The AC75 Luna Rossa won in the “One Off” category. Max Sirena, skipper and team director, and Horacio Carabelli, design team coordinator with Martin Fisher, accepted the award.
"We are highly honoured to receive this prize, which rewards two years of commitment and constant research. It was a team effort that involved everyone, from the design team to the shore team and from the sailing team to the suppliers, each of whom worked with a single goal, to build a high performance and cutting-edge boat".
