Following an imposed change to the Class Rule, that had already been approved by all teams challenging for the 35^th America’s Cup, Luna Rossa, already at work from its operations base in Cagliari since January 2014, decides to pull out of the Cup.

Patrizio Bertelli declares: "My thanks go to the whole team for the intense work carried out during this past year. Regretfully, this effort has been frustrated by a manoeuvre that is unprecedented in the history of the America’s Cup.  But in sports, as in life, one can’t always accept a constant compromise; sometimes it is necessary to make decisions that are painful but must be clear-cut as only these can make everybody aware of the drifts of the system and therefore set the basis for the future: respect of legality and sportsmanship.”
