31ST AMERICA'S CUP
2003 AUCKLAND

Challenger of Record

In January 2001, Patrizio Bertelli decided to continue the Luna Rossa adventure and once again challenge Defender Team New Zealand in Auckland. ITA 74 and ITA 80, the two yachts launched in Punta Ala the following year, did not achieve the expected results in the preliminary races. In 2002, Luna Rossa stopped in the semifinals of the Louis Vuitton Cup. The Italian team would return in 2007, when, for the first time in more than a century of history, the America’s Cup was held in Europe.
